In The Kitchen Tonight

Last night, Robbie suddenly had the feeling of being covered in spiderwebs. He frantically tried to get them off, and then looked around and saw this...

This is no teeny-tiny spider. This is a monster spider. Robbie tried to zap it with our bug-zapper, but it was only shocked and scurried into hiding beneath our refrigerator. So, the hunt was put on hold...

Tonight I saw it again while giving Hope her bath. I saw it, and then when I turned around again, it had disappeared. So, somewhere in the kitchen tonight is a huge monster spider. I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about standing out there barefoot to do the dishes.

Feathered Friends

These are our nameless chickens. The two males love to have crowing competitions, at any time of day. This is not conducive to long nap times for Haven. Although I think she might be growing accustomed to their sound. In Thai, these chickens are called "kai jae." They don't grow very big, and they seem to be more ornamental than anything else. They may look like they are fully mature, but they have a little while longer before they are.

Pandas and Penguins

Last week we took the girls to the zoo here in Chiang Mai. We weren't sure what the day would be like exactly. For parking, zoo tickets, panda tickets, penguin feeding, bus and "monorail" passes, and lunch we spent about 18 dollars.

The Chiang Mai zoo is on the side of a mountain, and it is difficult to traverse without riding a bus or taking the rickety, one rail train. The monorail is nothing like what they have at DisneyWorld or Disneyland.

This panda was sleeping peacefully until Haven started talking.
Then it immediately looked up and stared at Haven.

The cost to enter the panda exhibit was more than the cost of entering the zoo itself!

We were going to go see a seal show, but it was closed when we got there. I guess they were cleaning or something instead... So we went to see the penguins and found out that Hope could feed them! She had a lot of fun.

Getting her boots on...
Ready to meet the penguins.

The gloves were a little too large for her, but she had fun with the penguins anyway.

Marshmorgan the Snail

Hope loves to find animal friends in our yard.

Today she found a snail.

She let it slide itself slowly all over her arm. See the smile on her face?

She really loved this little snail friend.

And when I asked her what the snail's name is, she called him Marshmorgan.
I don't know where that came from...
